Rotary‘s 7th Area of Focus is the Environment. Clubs across District 7010 are actively engaged in carrying out cleanups within their communities and beyond - from city streets and highways, to parks, ravines, waterways and more. Many have involved help from family and friends, neighbours and partnering with other community organizations or groups.
The Peterborough Kawartha club held a cleanup day on October 21, 2023 on the River Road that connects Peterborough and Lakefield. It is a beautiful scenic route that sees many travellers daily. Our club has adopted this road to keep it looking pristine and beautiful. When doing projects like this, it is important to plan carefully and use the correct safety equipment to insure that pickers stay safe while on the road. And we ended the morning by having a nice lunch. Not only was this a great service project for our community but it was a nice way for our members and family and friends to engage in fellowship.

Club of Sudbury (May 2/24) - Each year, the club does the Adopt a Road, a stretch of Paris St. from the 4 corners up to Walford Road. They try to do it around Earth Day. It is a hands-on project that hopefully involves many of the club members, including kids. The club picked up about a dozen garbage bags of refuse, including plastic, a few masks, one sharp and some discarded clothes.
